GEORGA SHAW Obituary


Georga Fisher Collins Shaw  
Of Arlington, VA, died March 3, 2021 at the age of 87. Georga passed away peacefully at her home with her family at her side. Georga was born in Tampico, Mexico in 1933 and moved to Uvalde, Texas in 1945. She was a graduate of Uvalde High School and received her B.A. in Spanish and History from Baylor University in Waco, TX in 1953. After college graduation, Georga studied Spanish in a master's program at the National University of Mexico in Mexico City. She returned to the United States and in 1955 married Clinton R. Shaw in San Antonio, TX. She taught Spanish in San Antonio and Springfield, MA before settling in Arlington, VA in 1959. There she taught Spanish at Kenmore and then Williamsburg Junior High School until 1976. Following her teaching career, Georga became a licensed realtor and real estate investor. In addition to listing and selling homes as an agent, she spent the next 40 years personally purchasing, renovating, leasing, and managing numerous homes in Arlington, VA. In addition to playing in various bridge clubs with her friends, Georga was an avid and talented gardener. As a member of a local garden club in Arlington, VA for over 30 years, she especially enjoyed teaching Arlington elementary school children about horticulture and the art of flower arranging. Georga is preceded in death by her husband (Clinton) of 56 years, and by her brother (James Collins). She is survived by her son Clinton R. Shaw Jr., her daughter in-law Ashley Lemon Shaw; and two grandsons, Fletcher Lemon Shaw and George Fisher Shaw, all of Washington, DC. She will be terribly missed.A burial next to her husband in Arlington National Cemetery as well as a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Georga's memory to the Rock Spring Garden Club, c/o Treasurer, 3821 N. Tazewell Street, Arlington, VA 22207.
