Mr. Felton was the best. He made us laugh, and feel comfortable in our surroundings, he was there to help in a time of need and made everything turn out good. The students were his first concern. Being older now I can appreciate what he was trying to teach us. You will always be remembered and will hold a special place in our hearts. I know he will be missed immensly, but the heavens have received one very special angel.

George Felton was a top educator, a leader, and had such a keen sense of humor. I wish all could have enjoyed his imitation of Satchmo. .. We dined with him often in Sarasota and in northern Virginia. What a major loss for his family , close friends etc. I praise his best friend who cared for him near the end of life . What a loyal partner for for over 12 years.

I want to honor the life of George Felton, former principal of James Madison High School and South Lakes High School and assistant principal at George C. Marshall High School. He leaves behind a legacy that is unique among educators--he was a leader through empathy, personality, intelligence, and humor. I saw him clear the halls of loitering students after school at Marshall by singing "Fifty Ways to Leave the Building," doing his own riff on the Simon and Garfunkel tune of (almost) the same title; the students left laughing, feeling befriended and respected rather than confronted. His approach worked on adults too...such as the time he spotted a particular male teacher not wearing socks one day and thereafter referred to me--I mean, that teacher--as "Socks." George was also known to hop on a school bus and ride it into the community, talking with the kids on the bus about their issues and seeing their community for himself. George understood the differences in people of all ages, and he honored those differences, and he knew how to maximize the value in those differences in ways that made individual students, teachers, and schools better than they could have imagined on their own. He will be missed as a mentor, leader, and friend. Those of us who knew him and were fortunate enough to be touched by his unique wisdom are all the better for it.

To the Felton children, May you find comfort in knowing your dad was a wonderful, kind, comical, and close family friend. He touched the hearts and gave positive ensight on three generation of Wilks'. Your father taught my parents, he helped my brother and I get scholarships for college, and has been an inspiration for my son to achieve academic excellence. God bless you and keep you during your time of sorrow.

I remember Mr. Felton walking the halls of George Marshall HS in in the early mid 70's. He was a very kind and sincere man, always there and seemed to know each student by our first names. I am glad his family had as much time with him as they did and sorry it has come to and end. He was a great person and I'm thankful to have known him and his son George.

I had the pleasure of having Mr. Felton for my principal when he was at Madison H.S. Don't think I ever had a principal I enjoyed as much as Mr. Felton after he left Madison. He loved cakes and my colleague and I would provide him with two cakes each week. I would bring a cake in on Monday and Maggie Birch would bring on in on Wednesday or Thursday. He'd just come to our office and help himself while we were in class. And of course, he came to have a slice of cake with us at lunchtime too! I know Mr. Felton is in a better place, free from pain and he is busily looking for an angle to bake a cake.

I taught with George at W. T. Woodson High School in the mid-1960s and until he moved on to other schools. It was a loss to Woodson but a gain for the County when he went on in his career. He inspired many students to be better than they were and to care about being better. He was always my friend and supporter.
After we retired, George and I saw each other at the WT Woodson Retirees Luncheon held every year the first Friday in November. He was always there with a big hug for me.
George was a member of Fairfax County Retired Educators and was a contributor to the W. Harold Ford Foundation Scholarship Program, a program of FCRE, which makes scholarships availbable to FCPS students interested in going into education as a career.
George was a good friend, and I will miss him.

Ms. Felton, Coach Felton was my Freshman Football coach and provided a wonderful gift of affirmation to a 14 year teenager (and to my Dad - he let me play the position my Dad had played in high school - center. He then showed great patience/wisdom as an assistant principal when I was doing something dumb in my senior year of high school. I'm sorry for your loss. I'm thankful for the gifts Coach Felton gave. Very best and with great love and respect.
