George Kittredge Obituary



KITTREDGE GEORGE DAYTON KITTREDGE (Age 87) Of Persinger Road, Roanoke, VA formerly of Conway, SC, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. Kittredge was born April 4, 1922 in Springfield, MA to Harry Bradley Kittredge and Hazel May Moore Kittredge. He served as a sergeant in the US Marine Corp during World War II, and saw action at Iwo Jima. After his discharge in 1946, he completed his bachelor''s degree in mechanical engineering from Indiana Institute of Technology and a masters degree in industrial engineering from Oklahoma State University. In 1950, he married Mary Charlene Teter, his wife and lifelong partner who passed away in 2007. After working for an oil company and a university he spent the last twenty years of his career with the Environmental Protection Agency, where he worked on regulations to reduce aircraft emissions. Following his retirement in 1988, he spent his time reading the classics, enjoying his family and fishing. Surviving are his sons, Ken Kittredge and daughter-in-law, Sheri Kittredge of Huntsville, AL and Kevin Kittredge of Roanoke, VA; daughter, Katy McGrath Fritch and son-in-law, Steve Fritch of Concord, NH; and two grandchildren, Casey McGrath and Krystin Kittredge. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway. Flowers or donations to Alzheimers research and support groups in his name are much appreciated. We were neighbors of George and Charlene at Windsor Place in Roanoke for six years and found them to be fun, interesting and caring people. We visited them in Conway twice and enjoyed seeing them in their beautiful home. Our sympathy is extended to their family at this time.
