Col. (Ret.) GEORGE F. NUSSBAUM Ph.D
Formerly of Amarillo, TX, went to his Heavenly home after losing his fight to pancreatic cancer on January 31, 2013, in Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband of Jackie Nussbaum; father of Justin and Jordan Nussbaum; proud grandfather of Shaina Elizabeth Nussbaum. Son of the late Walter and Mary Nussbaum. Survived by his brother Jim Nussbaum, sister-in-law Reta Nussbaum, sister Mary Jo Nussbaum and aunt Katherine Nussbaum Aubin. Extended family includes the late Deborah Wurster, Ed Wurster, Jayson and Jared Wurster, Everett Holley, Natasha Lawrence, Xavier Lawrence and Netsanet Zewdu. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard, West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Friday, February 8, 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service at The Church at Severn Run, 8187 Telegraph Road, Severn, MD 21144 on Saturday February 9, at 11 a.m. Interment Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. I knew George as a friend and nursing colleague for many years and was shocked to hear of his passing with pancreatic cancer! He was always positive, loved and bragged about his family, and cheerful and loyal to his friends. I will miss his philosophical discussions, our writing endeavors, and coffee at Congress. My prayers go to Jackie and his family.

To all of the family,
I had the opportunity to work with George for a few years establishing the National Intrepid Center of Excellence. He was not only passionate about the work we were doing but was also very kind. He would go out of his way to provide rides for my collegue and I to and from the metro stop as we did not have the credentials to get onto the Bethesda campus. He always went above and beyond and I considered him a friend. He will be truly missed.

Jackie, Justin, Jordan, and ShainaBeth ~ It was a blessing knowing George. His kindness to my late father (peanut brittle!) and sacrificial and invaluable help for my daughter's wedding are kindnesses I always remember and try to pay forward.
