GEORGE JOSEPH O'HARA (Age 86)  
Of Silver Spring, MD died on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from complications of heart disease. He was born on June 2, 1926 in Holyoke, MA to the late Richard and Ida O'Hara. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary F. O'Hara and children, Kathleen O'Hara-Raum (James), Margaret O'Hara-Burgess (Steven), Elizabeth O'Hara-Schettino (John), Thomas Junkins (Maureen), Pat Hutchens (Jon) and Martha Cole (Jeff); grandchildren, Taryn O'Hara Millsaps (Michael), Steven Burgess II, Stephanie Burgess, Johnathan Torney, Kiera Schettino, Michael Raum (Carmen), Joshua Raum, Joe Williams (Seanta),Tim Junkins, Chris Junkins (Cynthia) and Grace Cole; great grandchildren, Tristen and Mikalya Millsaps, Skye Torney, Serenity Sowers, Jakub Raum, Kilian Junkins and Josephine and Katey Kelly. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving in combat as an infantry soldier during World War II in Europe. He graduated from University of Massachusetts with a master's degree in civil engineering and moved to Washington DC where he worked for the next 35 years as a civil engineer for the Department of Navy at the Naval Research Laboratory where he was a pioneer in the field of shock proofing submarines, destroyers and bridges. He was regarded the father of Dynamic Design Analysis Method (DDAM). He completed many outstanding projects along with many other great accomplishments for which he received many awards. He also published many articles related to his field. He went on to become a professor at the University of Maryland where he taught for the next ten years.A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD 21401.
