GEORGE WHEELER ROARK, JR. M.D.  
George Wheeler Roark Jr. M.D., 94, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from complications of COVID19. A beloved father, grandfather, and great grandpa, he was predeceased by his wife Barbara (Weybrew) Roark. George was born in Wheeling, WV to Clara Elisabeth Robinson and George W. Roark Sr. He earned his undergraduate degree at Washington & Jefferson College. He met Barbara during med school at the University of Pittsburgh and they married in 1949. After receiving his M.D. in 1950, George specialized in psychiatry at the Menninger School in Topeka, KS. In 1954 he was called up in the "Doctor Draft" during the Korean War and later began many years of service as a part-time consultant to the CIA. George helped many patients during 37 years of psychiatric private practice in the Washington, DC area. He was an active member of the American Psychiatric Association where he served as parliamentarian. He had a zest for life and loved tennis, gardening, swimming, and badminton. A master of the grill, he spent many happy days relaxing with family & friends in Bethany Beach, DE. After his retirement in 2006, George and Barbara moved to Swan Point in Issue MD where they enjoyed golf, bird watching and crab feasts with friends and family. They traveled extensively and particularly enjoyed the Caribbean breezes in St. Martin. In 2010 they joined the Falcons Landing Military Life Plan Community in Sterling, VA where George was active in the Bible and Book Clubs and enjoyed socializing with his many friends. George is survived by his son, Randy, of Silver Spring, MD; son Robin, of Derwood, MD; daughter Kristi Hobby of Calabash, NC; and daughter Kitty Smith of Concord, MA.
