Dr. GEORGE S. ROBINSON, III 1937 - 2018
Dr. George S. Robinson, a 35 year resident of Warrenton, Virginia, passed away on February 4, 2018. He is survived by his wife Ann K. Robinson; two sons, George S. Robinson, IV and his wife Tiffany, and Whitson, W. Robinson; and four grandchildren, Kristin, Kemper, Lillian and Bennett.Dr. Robinson graduated from the St. Albans School in Washington, DC, Bowdoin College in Maine, The University of Virginia School of Law, and McGill University where he earned and LLC and the world's first Doctor of Civil Laws degree in space law from the McGill University Institute of Air and Space Law.For 25 years, Dr. Robinson served as Legal Counsel at the Smithsonian Institution. Prior to his career at the Smithsonian, Dr. Robinson served as an International Relations Specialist for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Dr. Robinson also served as legal counsel for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under the U.S. Department of Transportation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St James Episcopal Church in Warrenton, VA.www.moserfuneralhome.com

Saddened to learn of the passing of George Robinson - a person I have long admired for his visionary zeal regarding humanity's future in space. I feel very fortunate to have been in his company on many occasions and benefited greatly by his suggestions and critiques.

Anne, we were so shocked to learn of George's passing. Alan couldn't have stayed at the Smithsonian without George's support and kindness. He was a generous and loyal colleague. Our condolences to you, Fox, Whit, and your family.

My condolences to Ann, George, Whit & the whole family. George was a giant in planetary intellectual history and one of the two most influential space lawyers in world history. He will be read by future generations on and off the planet. But, most of all, he was a kind and generous friend and will be sorely missed.
