Dr. Gerald Cook, Jerry, passed peacefully Sunday morning, November 17, 2024, with family at his side, just one week after celebrating his 87th birthday.
Raised in Baywood, Virginia, Jerry made a difference in countless lives. He was loved greatly by relatives, family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and students. He especially impacted hundreds of graduate students' lives throughout his 52 years of graduate level teaching at the Departments of Electrical Engineering in the Universities where he taught and Chaired. Dr. Cook held faculty positions at the Air Force Academy, University of Virginia, Vanderbilt University and George Mason University. Although Dr. Cook had very high academic achievements, the smarts and accolades (MIT PhD of Science), nobody one ever heard him boast or brag about his achievements throughout the course of his life. That's just not who he was. He was brilliant, but humble, very kind, gentle, gracious and charming. Jerry loved his Savior Jesus Christ with a deep devotion from a very young age. He read his Bible and prayed every morning as he sat down to have breakfast.
Jerry and Nancy were married 62 years. They were a team with the gift of hospitality - hosting parties and get-togethers for their neighbors, friends and family, and University faculty/students. Jerry was so adored by and proud of their two sons, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his beautiful wife, Nancy Anne, two sons Bo (Teresa) and Ford (Medy), eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren; his sister Ellen Bray and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Although our hearts are sad, we grieve, and will greatly miss him - we are rejoicing with him as he was welcomed to his eternal home!
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the ministry of "Loudoun Burn 24-7" Loudoun Burn 24-7, a local Christian Ministry in Leesburg, run by Jerry's son and daughter-in-law, Bo and Teresa Cook, focusing on worship, prayer, equipping and discipling believers, and running a House of Prayer and ministry in Leesburg.
