In 2021,it will be 50 years since we graduated from the University of Chicago Law School where we studied the new Civil Rights Act of 1964 which created the EEOC. It is great that Jerry's life work was with the EEOC. He was such a trooper in the face of his illness and dealt with it with such energy and dignity. He was a good friend. RIP Jerry. Love, Karen

Jerry, my husband and I grew up together in Brooklyn. I have known Jerry and his family over 60 years. He was a child filled with decency, sincerity and integrity. He was gifted with a deep intelligence and wisdom. All of those traits remained with him throughout his life and all of us who knew him were luckier for having had him in our lives. He will be missed. Teri Litman

Jerry was a Law School classmate of mine, and a friend. Though I haven't seen him for many years, I remember his sweet smile, his gentle manner, and his emotional and intellectual intelligence. He demonstrated great perseverance, faithfulness and courage throughout his career and in his long struggle with cancer. We are richer for having known Jerry. Judy Mears

I worked with Gerry for a couple of years in the late 70's at EEOC's Appellate Section, and saw him only a few times thereafter. Nevertheless, his sweet and cheerful disposition, and his deep intelligence and commitment to justice, have always been, and will always be, with me. I am terribly sorry to hear of his illness and passing. May his dear ones be comforted by the knowledge that his character and good deeds live on in many hearts.

I miss Jerry Letwin. But, I see his smile, and I hear his laughter. He enriched our lives, and we have been the better for it.

MR LETWIN WAS SUCH A PLEASANT PERSON. NEVER ONCE DID HE COMPLAIN WHEN HE CAME TO GET TREATS AT OUR OFFICE. ALWAYS HAD A SMILE ON HIS FACE. HE WILL DEFIANTLY BE MISSED!!!

Jerry was the same in law school 40 years ago as last week: decent, gentle, committed, uncomplaining and hardworking. It was wonderful that he continued to work at the EEOC until December 2012, working from home. Our classmates from the University of Chicago Law School class of 1971 remember him with fondness and respect. Karen Kaplowitz

I didn't know Gerry as well as I would have liked. He was among the most decent, gentle souls I have encountered. He fought an incredibly long battle with cancer, surviving as long as he did seemingly solely on the force of his will to live. He will be missed.

I share Ms. Louis' feelings. I worked with Gerry at EEOC in the 80's and 90's. He was smart, funny, helpful, and, in the end, so courageous. You have my deepest sympathies.
