“For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief.” Ecclesiastes 1:18. Surely my grandfather’s wife, the only Grandma I knew, helped me to stop sucking my thumb at age 7, congratulated me on my high-school and college graduations, celebrated the birth of my first child and wished me a merry Christmas..all 3000 miles and just a telephone call away. I’ll never forget her kind words and advice. One of the more amazing things is the discovery of what a remarkable and celebrated woman she was. The magic and love she shared to families that came to her childcare center, the extended family and friends who showed so much love in just knowing her. And yes GOD is love, love was GLADYS.
With gratitude,
Avante Elizabeth Simmons

"May the Work I've Done Speak for Me" this would be the true testiment of the life of Gladys Simmons. Mrs. Simmons was my first supervisor when I entered the Federal Government at the Department of Interior, the example that she provided us with as a Civil Servant, a Mentor, an African American Woman, and Human Being would have us reaching for the stars to attempt to catch up. Thank You Mrs.Simmons, I am sure she will enjoy her journey to the other side of the Jordan and to the many family and friends even though we will all miss her, "Count It All Joy" for truely this is a time of Celebration.

Life is a journey of sweetness and sorrow. Of joys that we've shared and of people we've met who have touched us in ways we will never forget. Mrs. Simmons gave me my first government job and was always very kind to me. May God bless and keep you.

May this wonderful woman's soul rest in eternal peace. I worked under Mrs. Simmons in the early 80's at the Department of the Interior. She ran a tight ship, but was always fair and caring. Even at such an early age I realized that her managerial style was for our benefit. It was her way of preparing us for the professional work world.

May the family find peace in knowing that Mrs. Simmons touched many hearts.

I will never forget you. Much love.

To the family of Mrs. Gladys Simmons (Grandma), please know that you are in our prayers. We, too, thank God for Grandma, for she was indeed a true grandma in every sense of the word to our grandson, Aaron. She was one of God's special angels here on Earth. Heaven is a little sweeter because of her.

Grandma Simmons was simply put: a saint. She cared for and loved our children as if they were her own. Even at her last, she want to be sure the children were well taken care of.

We parents who were lucky enough to have had her care for our children were truly blessed, with her wisdom, her kindness and her caring.

I will miss her.

Love, Aisha, Dusan and Christopher

Dear Family, our hearts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow. Grandma was truly the virtuous women spoken about in the 31st chapter of Proverbs. Grandma cared for my son from 3 months old until now, 3 years old. He always talked about Grandma and if you didn't know any better you would have thought that she was truly his grandma. I thank God that he gave us the opportunity to have had her in our life. She was a remarkable person and I thank God for what she did for my son and I. The care and education she instilled in him was a great foundation, and she'd be proud of her little man, Anthony.

May God continue to bless you. I know that God is well please with Grandma and is saying - "Well Done, my good and faithful servant." Love always Little Anthony and Mom (Arnetta)

Ms. Simmons (Gramdma) there is no words that I could ever think of how much you have touched my life and my sons life (Anthony Alston, only God knows the love we have in our hearts for you. Grandma this is what I think of you and how I want my life to be remembered:

Proverbs 31:10-31

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

Grandma has taken care of my children since 1999. She was such an inspiration with her selfless acts. I love her and I will think of her everyday. She made it possible for all of us. Ramone, Alexis, Brandon and Stephanie

Dear Family, Our hearts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow. Grandma was a remarkable person - a true servant and saint. She cared for my son from the time he was 6 months old until he went to Nursery School just this past September. He always asked about her and wanted to visit. I thank God that we didn't end our relationship with Grandma when he graduated, but that we took several opportunities to sit with her when we could.

I also thank God for what she did for my son and I. The care and education she instilled in was a great foundation, and she'd be proud of her little man, Aaron.

May God continue to bless you. I find peace in knowing that Grandma is finally getting some rest. I know God is saying - "Well Done, my good and faithful servant."
