Glen Ortman Obituary

Glen "Gig" Ortman, 78, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, in Alexandria, VA. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Glen brought warmth, humor, and joy to all who knew him.

Born on May 25, 1947, in Fort Lee, New Jersey, Glen was the son of John and Evelyn Ortman. He pursued his undergraduate studies at Bowdoin College before earning his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver. With a sharp legal mind and unwavering dedication to his profession, Glen built a distinguished career in energy law. His excellence was recognized nationally—he was named in both the '23 and '24 editions of *The Best Lawyers in America* and ranked among the top five percent in his field. Glen continued practicing law until May of last year when he retired after decades of impactful work.

Beyond his professional achievements, Glen was known for his deep faith and commitment to service. A devout Catholic, he attended daily Mass at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Alexandria or St. Matthews in DC. His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his identity and guided his actions.

Glen's love for life extended far beyond the courtroom. He was an avid sailor, skier, and golfer. A passionate supporter of Washington sports teams, Glen proudly held season tickets to the Capitals for over thirty years. His enthusiasm for DC sports was matched only by his devotion to his family. His favorite week each year were the family vacations in the OBX, BHI, or at the Homestead.

He is survived by his cherished wife, Sue Ortman; daughter Sarah Sams of Fairfax, VA; son Connor Ortman of San Francisco, CA; and brother John Ortman of Leesburg, VA. Glen's love for his family was boundless—he was described as the very best father, grandfather, and husband. Those closest to him will remember not only his loyalty but also the way he radiated kindness in every interaction.

Glen Ortman leaves behind a legacy defined by integrity, generosity, laughter, and love—a life well-lived that touched countless others along the way. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.

A Funeral Mass will be held on August 14, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1427 W Braddock Rd. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Bowdoin Class of 1969 Scholarship Fund or the American Cancer Society in memory of Glen.

Gig was such a kind and caring man. I did not know your dad for very long but I know he was a prince of a man. Kind, generous, fun and gregarious plus all of the wonderful attributes you described in his beautiful obituary. My husband and I had the good fortune to golf with Gig and enjoy a very fun outing on his boat. Gig will be missed by everyone who was lucky to know him.
