Glenda Murray Obituary

Glenda Irene (Taylor) Murray was born to the late James Howard Taylor Sr. and Stella Virginia (Beckwith) Taylor on July 18, 1937. She received her childhood education from the Montgomery County public school system and sought every opportunity to learn more about business and graduated from Carver high school in 1955.
Glenda married her High School sweetheart Richard Warren Murray Jr. four months after he completed his tour of duty in the U.S. Army on November 16, 1957. From their union two children were born: Pamela and Tyrone. Glenda was a devoted mother with endless energy to serve the Lord, care for the kids, prepare the meals, maintain the house, while working a full-time job.
Glenda was the consummate dreamer wanting to do things that others just talked about. She worked for the Atomic Energy Commission in the cafeteria. During the onset of the computer revolution, she enrolled in the Temple School evening Data Processing Certification Program and upon receiving her certification took an interdepartmental transfer to the AEC data processing group. She excelled in her skills receiving several Superior Performance Awards and enjoyed a 35-year career with the Department of Energy.
Glenda served the Lord all her life by singing in choirs and serving on welcome committees. She made sure the family always attended church and church outings together and maintained close relationships with her siblings' families. She attended Asbury United Methodist Church as a youth and sang in the Starlight Choir for many years. Glenda made it a requirement to engage in a church home wherever she lived. She and Richard moved to Pineville, North Carolina in 2003; residing there for 17 years. Glenda served at Victory Christian Church in Pineville North Carolina as a door greeter.
Glenda transitioned to see the Lord May 9, 2024 with her family by her side in North Chesterfield Virginia after bouncing back from multiple health setbacks caused by Dementia and Parkinson's.
Glenda was preceded in death by her parents James H. Taylor Sr. and Stella V. (Beckwith) Taylor, her spouse Richard W. Murray Jr., siblings James Taylor, William Taylor, Aubrey Taylor, Bertha Morris, Anna Plummer, Ruby Dyson, and Ruth Frazier. She leaves to cherish her memory children, Pamela (Billy) and Tyrone (Wanda); grandchildren, Ryan (Brittany), Nichole (David), Danielle (Kevin), and Justyn (Kimberly); great grandchildren, Alaya, Aubrielle, Lexi, Leo, Owen, Ava, Arielle, Loriana, Zaidyn, and Miles; brothers-in-law Charles Dyson, Stansbury Frazier, and Leroy Murray (May), sisters-in-law Marylyn Stewart (Dwight), Jeane Claggett, Elaine Offutt and devoted family friend, Elsie Cason.

Our thoughts are with you on this day and the days to come. While Parkingson may have robbed your mother's memory it cannot mar what you have shared all of your lives. Glennie will live on in our minds and hearts.

To my cousins Pam , Tyrone, your families and all our cousins. Our heavenly Father and His darling son our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ knew before Glenda was born the exact number of years, days, hours and minutes Glenda would live here on earth. She touched the lives of my family with so much love, hospitality and support down through the years. We looked forward to seeing her and Sonny annually at the pastoral anniversary services of our dad, Rev. Dr. Cornelius Carter,
Jr. While our hearts are heavy our souls rejoice as we prepare to celebrate the home going of a true angel. The spaces left empty in our hearts can only be filled by the comfort of the Holy Spirit. It's our prayer that you all will be held together under the wings and covering only God can provide. Know that we love you both and send our deepest condolences. Glenda isn't lost for we know she has just beat us in the race to her eternal home. Thank you Lord for loaning cousin Glenda to us. Thank you for establishing the path for her to reunite with her earthly love, cousin Sonny. We believe that through our acceptance of Jesus as our Savior we shall see her and all those who died in Christ soon. Bless the Lord for his greatness. We'll keep you all in our prayers. Denise JC Brewer, Cheryl Carter Hunter, Shawnee Carter and J'Naya Hunter.
