I met Glenn when we were still in our late teens. He was playing "Tonk" (some quick-to-play card game) for 25c per hand with David Hoffner in the student union building at Montgomery College Rockville. Not long after that he, David, and my brother Barry were hanging around David's mom's house in Wheaton bored. Bridge was suggested. Mrs. Hoffner played as did Barry and David -- but NOT Glenn. THe "Big Bang" followed! My father dubbed Glenn "The Howler" when he showed up very late one night at our house (having consumed more that a bit too much beer) screaming at the top of his lungs, "I want my tro-phy! I want my TRRROOOOPHY!" At some point my father chased him away (without said trophy.) Glenn and I had just played in a 0-20 Masterpoint event and won with a 70% game (possibly the best live score I've ever had.) In those days we were awarded trophies. I had collected both, Glenn having made a quick dash out to celebrate. The Howler was accepted and well liked in my family for many, many years after. I have so many fond (and a bit weird) memories. I'm saddened at this news.

The bridge world used to be filled with characters like Glenn. Nowadays there are none left. I enjoyed many years of playing frequently with Glenn. He was so honest and real. I'll miss him.

Glenn Lublin (Rectify the count) was one of the first voices I heard in Washington, DC, as I began to play duplicate bridge on Connecticut Ave in 1969. He was nice to me and always said "Hello".
