GRACE SPELMAN Obituary


Grace Alice Spelman  
Beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother met our Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 25, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born on July 6, 1930 in Jersey City, New Jersey. After graduation from St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in New York City in 1951, she moved to Washington, DC where she met her husband, James P. Spelman and raised their family. She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James P. Spelman, her sister Ann Marie Peacock and her granddaughter Kimberly Shields. She is survived by her sister Kathleen McGregor; her children, Mary Alice Castle (Kenneth), Patricia A. Graham (Bob), Joseph W. Spelman (Shirley), James P. Spelman, Jr., Kathleen Skowron, Grace M. Garner (Kenneth) and Christine T. Owen (Danny). She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church on Saturday, March 6, 2021 from 10 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be live streamed. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1400 Perry Street Richmond, Virginia.
