Gregory Jones Obituary

Gregory Monroe Jones, age 73, passed away on Sunday October 27, 2024 at his home in Washington, DC of complications of Parkinson's. Greg is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Erika, and their cherished daughter, Katie of Los Angeles, CA, and her husband, Doug Walters. Greg was a loving Pop-Pop to Jude Walters. He is also survived by his brothers Greg DeGiere of Sacramento, CA and Lea Jones of Eugene, OR, and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was also fortunate to have many good friends in his life.
Greg was born in Roswell, New Mexico in 1951 to William and Alice Graham Jones. He graduated from University of California (Berkeley) and the University of Texas Law School. After law school, he joined the federal government in Washington, DC at the Federal Communications Commission. He continued his public service in the White House Office of Consumer Affairs, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, and the U.S. Department of Justice, from which he retired in 2012.
Greg approached life with a wry sense of humor. He enjoyed good food, history, documentaries, baseball (including his beloved LA Dodgers and his adopted Washington Nationals) and music (especially bluegrass, Texas swing, and singer-songwriters). Most of all, he loved his family and friends, and they will miss him deeply.
Funeral services will be planned for a later date. Memorial contributions to So Others Might Eat (SOME), 71 O Street NW, Washington, DC 20001 would be welcomed.

Hi, I don't know you, but I saw this in the paper. I lost my dad last year at the same age and from the same cause, and wanted to send condolences.

Dear Erika,
I am so sorry to hear of Greg's death. He was a fine man --- tremendously bright and tremendously kind, and as interesting as he was insightful. It was touching to see his facial expression change as he spoke of Katie and Jude, and to see, when I lived next door to you on Connecticut Avenue, how in love with you he was. He was a man of character and goodness.
