Greg was a blessing to our family. He was a brother and a son to us. Our bond was nurtured by trust, respect, and love. We will be forever grateful for the legacy he left- Gregory and Matthew. We will miss "Big Poppa's" early morning calls, fried chicken wings and unbridled wit. He was truly one of a kind! Mom Clark, Shirley & Linda

The news of Greg's passing is still difficult to believe. I remember how he took me "under his wing" as a young basketball player at Suitland High. He was a coach on the floor and off the floor he was a life coach, stopping by my home unannounced to encourage and challenge me with advice that rings true today. His brotherly advice was more like fatherly advice because he always seemed much older than he was. To the entire Wright family, may God strengthen you with His abundant grace during this season of adjusting to Greg's transition. His grace is sufficient!!

I am trying to recall the last time I saw Greg Wright. My memories of him are his smile, his laughter, his tallness, and of course his good looks. He was a handsome young man and as he matured. I am sorry I did not get a chance to talk or see him over many years but he will always be special to me. Rest in peace Greg. May GOD keep the family during this difficult time. Know that he was loved and the family is too! May GOD bless us all!

TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS, MAY GOD CONTINUE TO COMFORT AND KEEP YOU. GOD HAS HIS SOUL, LET THAT BRING YOU PEACE, CHERISH THE MEMORIES. GREG WAS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR, HANDSOME, GENUINELY KIND B-BALLERS AT SUITLAND (CLASS OF 75). GREG AND I RAN INTO EACH OTHER AT A "FAMILY" FUNCTION YEARS AFTER GRADUATING AND DISCOVERED WE WERE RELATED (DISTANT COUSINS ON MY DAD'S SIDE), GO FIGURE. RIP GREG, FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS.

"G" was a big brother that I never had. He was the "Buck Williams" of basketball at Suitland High, Frostburg St. & "Candyland". I will always remember that he would take time to talk to me individually (& collectively to Daryl, Tony, Ray, Sheffield, etc.). He would make me angry at times with truths yet make me laugh & say let's shoot some hoops, it's gonna be alright. Greg was a great competitor on the basketball court, a great teammate, a great communicator. He was a great dancer too! But most importantly, as my big brother he was a awesome friend who was loves & respected by many! You'll be miss, but never forgotten. Rest now "G" until we meet again, in Jesus Name! Love always. My prayers & thoughts goes out to my brother & sisters, Steve, Belinda, Tanya, Veeda & Gailya. As well Keith, Keisha, Crystal & Danielle (& the boys, Gregory & Matthew). May God keep y'all & give strength, hope & peace through it all.

The Powell Family 2012

Carl & Sandra Powell

August 9, 2014

It is so hard to believe that 35 years ago on August 18th Greg stood next to one his best friend in high school, Carl Powell and his bride Sandra Alexander as the best man. We were just talking about everyone that was in the wedding not a week ago. Of course, Greg's name came up with a lot of wonderful Suitland High School basketball stories. Carl, was blessed to speak and reminisce with Greg a few months ago. We know that Greg was an angel sent from above to make lasting memories with those he loved. We will be praying that God gives us all strength as we process this loss. Rest in Peace my friend, Rest in Peace

Wow. Life moves so fast and changes so suddenly. I knew Mr Wright for 2 years where we worked at the WICC. He touched so many lives in just a short time. His smile lit up the room and made us laugh all evening. I pray you find peace and comfort in knowing how much he made a difference in so many lives. May God be with you in this difficult time.

Having been a former (hardheaded I might add) "student" of Greg's I know today how blessed I was in 2006 having him advocate for me at ORCC. When I re-connected with him in 2009 my whole outlook on life had changed, he welcomed me with open arms and his infectious smile. It has been an honor and absolute privilege to work on a professional level with him while building a friendship which I will miss. He has taught me what it means to; believe in, advocate and appreciate my clients...
My favorite Greg quote:
"Angel - I'm going to love you and there is NOT a thing you can do about it" Greg Wright
My heart is with all who have lost a burning light during this difficult time...

Greg was more than a co-worker and a friend, Greg was a brother. I will forever remain grateful to the almighty God for the opportunity to have known Greg and will always remember fondly the experiences he and I had hanging out together. My condolences to the Wrights family, Gregory Jr., Matthew and Kathy. I pray that in this time of loss, you will feel God's love much more and that you will find your comfort in the presence of the Lord.
Greg will be dearly missed.

I'm a true believer that God puts certain people in your life, to teach, motivate, and keep you on a positive vibe. Greg Wright was one of those people, and I'm truly blessed and thankful that God allowed him to be a part in my life. As I come to work, you can feel the void in the building, however, the memories of such a kind, funny, and extraordinary man will fill that void with time.

Greg served as an inspiration to us all. It didn't matter if he just saw someone fifteen minutes prior; he would again address and shake hands with that person. I often told Greg that his positive energy was contagious to all of us around him. If someone ever had an issue with Greg, it was their own whereas Greg cast no judgments nor held any grudges. In fact, he went out of his way to bring people together. I am really saddened by his passing. I still expect him to swing by my office like he did every workday. I confident we will reunite again at a time only known to the Lord.

Not many people come across your path that leave a lasting impact. I became a better man after our countless talks and i'm just glad that I had the chance to let you know that when you were still here in the physical.....It goes without saying you will be missed but life lessons you taught me will go on through me and those I teach as well like you would want me to do

I was fortunate enough to know Greg Wright for over ten years as a co-worker,playing basketball together and a friend. Greg had a very calm demeanor, constant positive spirit and always had a kind word for staff!!
Greg was at peace here on earth, so I`m totally convinced he is resting in peace now.

Over the past four years, Greg's smile and the sound of him calling "Beee-der-man!!" down the hallways of ORCC have helped brighten many gloomy days. That smile and his willingness to take a moment (or 10!) to listen to anyone that needed him, meant the world to so many. So many lives touched, and shoes that will never be filled. God bless all of his family and friends, and know that his wonderful spirit goes on inside all of us.

Greg will be missed but his spirit will forever remain. May the peace of Christ be with his children, family and friends.

I was deeply saddened and in total shock when I learned about the passing of my dear brother, Mr. Greg J. Wright. Greg was an inspiration to us all and the wind beneath our wings. Words and tears along can't express the many wonderful thoughts and daily encounters we / staff shared while working here at ORCC. You will be surely missed - you were my co-worker, friend and brother...God rest your soul, until we meet again...

May all of you take solace in the fact that God makes no mistakes and my beloved Greg is sitting at the right hand of the Father and telling stories, in complete health. I am devastated by the loss of my friend, but I am happy to know that he is in God's hands now and will never be again in any distress. I thank God that we talked just last week and I was able to hear him tell me he loved me and be able to tell him that I loved him more. Please call on me if you need anything at all, if nothing more than a shoulder. I love all of you as my family, as always. Rest in Peace, my sweet Prince.

How do I say goodbye?
I'm nowhere near ready to let go
How do I come to terms
With the loss of one that I've loved so?
Never did it come to mind
That you'd have to leave so soon
I thought I'd have another chance
To sing old Whispers tune
You weren't supposed to leave just yet
With so many songs unsung
I've cherished memories of you
From the days when I was young
So many times you took me
To the basketball courts up Candy land in Suitland
And gladly let me tag along
Wherever you would go
You helped me to believe in me
When others seemed to doubt
And encouraged me to use my mind
For figuring things out
You told me truths about myself,
Urged me stretch and grow
You made all the difference
Oh, Lord, I hope you know
You saw me with such loving eyes;
Never once made me feel less
I hope you recall the times I've said
That my life you have blessed
But Uncle Greg, I can rejoice today
In knowing you are free
And that your crown will hold a jewel
You've earned by loving me
In loving memory of Gregory Joseph Wright
I will cherish you always, Uncle Greg!
