HARRIET SINGLETON Obituary


HARRIET ELIZABETH SINGLETON  1952 - 2018  
Passed away on July 25, 2018 in Wilmington, NC after a difficult fight with colorectal cancer. Harriet was born in Knoxville, TN on December 5, 1952 as the youngest child to Willa Mae Singleton and John B. Singleton. She lived most of her life in northern Virginia and attended Old Dominion University from 1971-1975 graduating with a Bachelor of the Arts degree. She returned to northern Virginia after college and worked for the United States Department of Veterans Administration for 30 year serving in several key roles including as the Executive Assistant for the Undersecretary before retiring in 2005 and moving to Wilmington, NC in 2017.  She is survived by her older brother, Chris Singleton; one niece, Katie Stooks; and three nephews, Jake Singleton, John Masten and Paul Masten. She will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends and reunited with her mother, father and older sister, Mary Anne Masten. A grave-side internment service will be held at Fairfax Memorial Park on October 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Mount Vernon Yacht Club on October 13, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

I too am retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs now, and I wish that I could spend time with Harriet. It would have been so much fun. I miss her.
