Hazel Tutor Obituary

TUTOR HAZEL MANGUM TUTOR Hazel Mangum Tutor, age 89, of Fairfax, VA died on May 5, 2010 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. She was a retired US Army civilian with 43 years of service plus nearly nine years as a System Analyst/Consultant with computer firms including UNISYS, SAIC and TITAN Corporation. Mrs. Tutor was considered the expert on many of the Army Systems that supported the Joint Chiefs of Staff computer systems as well as internal Army systems worldwide. She received many outstanding evaluation reports and letters of appreciation for her support during her career. One she was particularly proud of was from the Dept. of State for the assistance in the data preparation in connection with the European Recovery Programs, knows as the Marshall Plan in 1947. Mrs. Tutor traveled worldwide for the Army and Joint Chief of Staff ADP Command and Control Systems during her working career. Her trips included Germany, Hawaii, Korea as well as the CONUS Headquarters. She had lived in the Washington area for nearly 70 years, but still considered North Carolina her home. She is preceded in death by her husband, Grady; her parents, Marvin and Lena Whittington Mangum; and her sisters and brother-in-law, Francis Louise and Helen "Buddy" Sidles and her husband, Paul "Sid". She is survived by her son, Barry and his wife Lynne, of Fairfax, VA and nephew, David of Omaha, NE. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 15, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Everly Funeral Home, 10565 Main St., Fairfax, VA 22030. Interment will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 10 a.m. in Arlington National Cemetery. www.everlyfuneralhomes.com
