A retired Colonel from the U.S. Marine Corps died at Thomas Hospital, Fairhope, AL on October 16, 2001. During WWII he served in the Pacific Theater and was honored with many medals for his services in that theater. He was a longtime resident of Alexandria, VA before moving to Fairhope, AL in the year 2000. Mr. Gunter is survived by his wife, Jeanette Gunter; two daughters, Lisa G. Austin of Fairhope, AL, Leah B. Gunter of Alexandria, VA, and one sister, Kathryn McKinney of Montgomery, AL, and five grandchildren. A funeral service will be held November 7, 2001 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1301 Collingwood Rd., Alexandria, VA at 10 a.m. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington at 1 p.m. Please assemble at main gate at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a special family in crisis through Wolfe Funeral Home, Attn: Lisa G.
