HOWARD RUDNICK

Howard Rudnick passed away at the age of 99 on November 8, 2022 at his home in Jupiter, Florida. He is survived by his only child, Linda Mansbach (Robert), two grandsons, Eric (Hallie) and Jeffrey (Lexi), two great-granddaughters, Paige and Zoe, and many nieces and nephews. Howard's first wife Eva passed away in 1977 and his second wife, Jean, passed away in 2004.

One of eight children born to Samuel and Anna Rudnick, Howard grew up in Brooklyn, New York. A year after Pearl Harbor, Howard became an officer in the Army Air Corps. During World War II, he flew many bombing missions over Occupied Europe, including the raid on the oil refineries in Ploesti, Romania in 1943. Wounded in action, Howard received the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross for conspicuous gallantry. After the war, Howard served overseas in the clandestine services, remaining on active duty with the Office of Special Investigations for the Air Force until his retirement at the rank of Major in 1963. Howard then completed his bachelor's degree in political science at the University of Maryland and joined the Defense Intelligence Agency where he spent the next 20 years of his career, retiring as the Agency's highest-ranking civilian.

Howard was an avid gardener, dog lover, and reader of history.

There will be a service and burial with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday, April 17, 2023 at 11 a.m. Attendees should meet at the Old Post Chapel at 10:15 a.m. after entering the Cemetery grounds at the Hatfield Gate.
