Irwin Lebow Obituary
IRWIN LEON LEBOW (Age 96) April 27, 1926 — May 11, 2022
Survived by his wife Grace Lebow and his children Judith Lebow (Andrew Oram), William Lebow (Laura Lebow), and David Lebow (Coletta Youngers). He was loving Grandsire to four grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, May 13 at Judean Memorial Gardens, Olney, Maryland.
Irwin Lebow designed one of the first all-transistor digital computers and pioneered in satellite communication at Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Lincoln Laboratory, where he worked 1951-1975. He also served at the Defense Communications Agency as Chief Scientist, Associate Director-Technology of DCA from 1975-1984.
Lebow was born in Boston, Massachusetts, served in the US Navy 1944-1946, and earned a PhD in physics at MIT in 1951. He is the author of four books on digital computing and telecommunications, and wrote Coping With Your Difficult Older Parent: A Guide for Stressed-Out Children with Grace Lebow and Barbara Kane. He served as president of Temple Emunah of Lexington, Massachusetts from 1964-1966. In retirement he taught classes on Jewish Biblical books, won an award for a rosemary Challah recipe, and loved reading the obituaries.
