JACK S. BLOCKER

On Sunday, September 17, 2006 at Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, VA. Beloved husband of the late Bonita R. Blocker and cherished father of the late Katherine I. Anderson. He is survived by sons, Jack, Jr. of London, Ontario and Kent of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two daugthers-in-law, Susan and Ellen; three grandchildren, Stuart, David and Whitney; a niece and a number of nephews. General Blocker had lived in Arlington between overseas assignments since 1946. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and was a graduate of the University of Florida and its ROTC unit. After entering active duty in 1941, he served with the IV and XIV Army Corps in the Solomon and Philippine Island campaigns, as well as in postwar Japan. He followed that with graduate study at Ohio State University and later with the Army War College. He served tours of duty in West Germany and South Korea, retiring from active duty in 1969. He was one of the first ROTC graduates to be promoted to general-officer rank. Opening a second career as a management consultant with Hay Associates, an international consulting firm, he specialized in resolving management and compensation problems. Among his major clients were the Chamber of Commerce of the U.S., Comsat, Philip Morris, the American Bankers Association, Riggs National Bank, the North Carolina university system, and the U.S. Postal Service. He was a life member of AUSA and the Retired Officers Association, an an active member of the Calvary United Methodist Church. A Funeral Service will be held at the Old Post Chapel, Fort Myer at 9 a.m. on Monday, November 6, 2006, with interment to follow in Arlington National Cemetery.
