James J. Basham "Jim"
James J. (Jim) Basham, age 80, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024, in Reston, VA. He was born April 16, 1943, in Wilkes Barre, PA, was a member of the Catholic Church and served as an altar boy in his youth. Jim attended Wilkes Barre Township HS then joined the Army Reserves and trained as a military police officer. In 1966 he joined the Washington Metropolitan Police Academy.
Jim was a VP at First American Bank of Virginia, became Asst Mgr at The Vienna Inn, then became a member of the team at Brickwall Printing and Graphics before he retired.
Jim was a member of the American Legion at Post 180. He was a Stratton Woods original owner and prided himself as being one of the first on Toddsbury Place. After the sale of his home, he retired to the Arbor Terrace of Herndon community.
Jim was a sports enthusiast, and his number one team was the Washington Redskins. In his spare time, he loved playing golf, volleyball, bowling and watching sporting events with friends and family. He also enjoyed listening to music and he loved singing. He was known for his sense of humor and fun-loving ways and will be remembered for his big personality and always making people smile.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Isabelle Hess, and stepfather, Millard Hess. He is survived by his daughters, Anne (Chris) Walker, Kathleen (Jeremy) Basham, Sierra Low, and son, Jimmy Basham; his five grandchildren: Austin Walker, Lauren Walker, Hailey Basham, Hunter Basham, and Everly Adams; his brother, Jack Hess, his sister, Mary Beth Schiel, his cousin, Nancie Paucke, and their respective families, including nieces, nephews, and many other cousins. He is also survived by many close friends he considered family.
We will all miss him every day and he will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him and the stories we share.
Memorial Visitation will be held at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St, Herndon, VA 20170 on February 24, 2024, at 1 p.m. Memorial Service will begin at 2 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held on the same day, February 24, 2024, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post 180 Patriot Hall, 330 Center St N, Vienna, VA 22180.
