I’m so sorry that I never met my grandmother’s (Fannie Cheek) nephew Dr. James Cheek. My aunt who we called Sister graduated under her uncle’s leadership in 1966. I would love to be reacquainted with my family after all these years. RIP Sir Cheek.

I am the son of Heslip (Happy) Lee. My father worked with Dr Cheek and his brother King at Shaw University from 1966 to 1968. I remember Dr Cheek as a forceful figure who's efforts at the University will never be forgotten. If King Cheek sees this, I'm asking tht he give me a call. Glenn Lee at 404-408-5345.

My condolences to the Cheek family and friends. As a student at Howard University in the mid 70s, Dr. Cheek had the difficult task of bringing about change during a very difficult time. He did it with fervor and grace. We were all the better for it. Thank you to one whose life has truly been about service. Our thoughts and prayers are with you the family during this time and may God continue to bless and comfort you. Sincerely, Barbara Covington Gardner Clase of 76.

To The Family of Dr. Cheek:
I entered Shaw University as a Freshman in 1966 under the excellent leadership of Dr. Cheek. I was so sad to see him move on to Howard. However, Shaw's loss was Howard's gain. He was a great asset to Shaw. I ended up graduating in 1970 under the outstanding leadership of another member of the Cheek family, Dr. King Cheek.
May God be with you and your family at this time and know that Dr. Cheek is in a better place. Higher education is better today in the U.S. because of Dr. Cheek's impact.
