JAMES HARPER Obituary
JAMES WINSTON ELTICON HARPER, M.D.
Passed January 13, 2014. Harper was born in 1918 in Guyana. A 1954 graduate of Howard College of Medicine, he practiced family medicine from 1955-2001 in East Chicago, IN. He is survived by children, Hazel (Robert), Gregory and Vicki; grandchildren, Tiffany and Brandon; great-grandson, Joel; sisters, Ena, Joyce and Waveney; nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial services will be held in Maryland in the spring and Guyana in the winter. A scholarship will be established in his name for Howard University Medical Students. Cards and messages may be sent c/o the Harper Family, 11 Sutton Court, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774.

Dr. Harper will truly be missed by my family. I worked for Dr. Harper for 28 years. He was my boss, and friend to all who knew him.

Rest in Heaven Dr. Harper. He was an amazing doctor and a comedian at times. He was my doctor from birth until his retirement. There will never be another carrying,dedicated physician like him.

Feeling the loss along with all of our wonderful neighbors posting condolences and remembering Dr. Harper. I think he took care of all of us in our neighborhood when we were sick. Whenever my dad would call him, he would take the time out of his busy schedule and was right there to make us better. He will be missed.

My sympathy goes out to the Harper family. I also, can remember Doc Harper, making house calls, when my brothers and sister were ill. Doc Harper was a pioneer for healthcare in the Harbor, of East Chicago. So sorry.

Every memory I have of Dr. Harper is one of kindness. In his voice you could hear his heritage flow from Guyana. He was a friend to my entire family. As next door neighbors, I had the pleasure of growing up with Greg and Vicki. I can remember several occasions when he made house calls to my home when one of us was ill. He will be missed…
