James Hassett Obituary

James Christopher "Jace" Hassett, aged 67, passed away on June 29, 2025 after a brief illness. Jace died peacefully at his home in Arlington, Virginia surrounded by his wife Laurie (Self); his son James Quinn and daughter Christina Grace. Jace was deeply loved by his family and friends for his warmth, humor, and joy for life. He was a man of tremendous character and integrity, who lived his values by making those around him feel special and loved.

Jace was born on March 7, 1958 in Aurora, Illinois to Mary Alice ( Henderson) Hassett and Robert D. Hassett, two wonderful parents whom he cherished and admired throughout their long lives. Jace spent formative parts of his childhood in Pittsburgh, PA, where he became a lifelong Steelers fan, and Louisville, KY, where he became an avid horseracing fan. Jace graduated high school in 1976 from Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana - a beautiful school on Lake Maxinkuckee where Jace had deep family roots, and where he and Laurie were married in 1997. Jace received his undergraduate degree in 1980 from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina.

For nearly four decades, Jace was a highly respected government affairs professional in Washington, DC and spent much of his career at Occidental Petroleum. He happily retired in 2019 and enjoyed having more time to spend with friends and family, and especially Laurie, Quinn and Christina. After such a long career, Jace took great joy in being a stay-at-home dad. He was an incredibly supportive father to his kids and husband to Laurie, and they will treasure his memory always.

In addition to his wife and children, Jace leaves behind his siblings Holly Hassett, Tim Hassett, and Bill Hassett, and his nephew Michael Hassett and nieces Kathryn (Hassett) Downing, Hayley (Hassett) Shaheen, and Megan Hassett.

At Jace's request, no formal service will be held.
