For 25 years,Jim was so forgiving a man.Especially of my poor use of my proper English.Never once correcting me.That was his daughters response,my wife.Which he would correct,on occasion,at the dinning room table.Wonderful meals, from Marie's kitchen and great, witty, wise(cracking) discussions is what I'll miss most. His Irish/Italian granddaughters will miss his charm and warmth.I'm so glad they new Jim and Marie, and thank you for these rememberance We were luck to have known him.

During the early days of The National Observer,Jim and I were great friends. he was one of the smartest men I knew. He was kind, witty, and diligent. It was a privilege to know Jim and a pleasure to work with him. I am sad he has left us.

I would like to add one more thing: Jim was Irish through and through. That means LOYALTY, LOVE, and TALENT--and appreciation for a sip of the draught, just just a wee sip. I have never cried so much in my whole life for a boss as I have for Meagher. His whole life was love of his fellow man and worship of the one true God. It is unbearable to think I will never pick up the phone again and her his voice. In heaven, I hope,he will still be giving me hell for being too close to deadline.

I was lucky to have Jim edited my copy for decades. I always enjoyed his insight and careful regard for a writer's copy. No one knew more about real estate. I wish his family to know that this fighting Irishman's wry sense of humor will be sorely missed at Barron's.

Jim was my editor and dear friend for two decades or more when he was at Barrons. He was a gentleman, an honest man, a fighter for the little guy, and a man of his word. In the days of worshipping the almighty dollar, Jim worshipped his God and showed his reverence for God by his treatment of his fellow man...always just, courteous and respectful except when the man was a crook, and then Jim went after him hammer and tong.
There was no better editor, no better friend than Jim Meagher. He will be missed cruelly. Love, Ben Stein
