James Weber Obituary

James Lambert Weber, 98, died peacefully at his home in Alexandria, VA, on May 3, 2024. With him were his two daughters.

A native of Rockville Centre, NY, Jim graduated from Southside High School in 1943. Kept out of WWII by a congenital heart condition, he attended Allegheny College and completed his BA in 3 years. He then taught at the University of Connecticut before leaving to earn an MA from the Fletcher School of Tufts University.

Hired by the CIA in the early 1950s as an intelligence analyst, he worked for the agency his entire career. Those who knew Jim remember him as an exemplary colleague and boss. Upon retirement, he received the Intelligence Medal of Merit.

While at UConn, he met the love of his life, Evelyn Pavlovsky. The two married in 1954 and moved first to Arlington, VA, and then, in 1962, to Alexandria, VA. There they raised their four children: Gregory, Kathleen, Pamela and David.

If Medals of Merit were given to caregivers, Jim would be among the first recipients. Jim lovingly and selflessly cared for Evelyn for 17 years following her near fatal fall in 1999.

After Evelyn's death in 2016, he shared his Alexandria residence with daughter Kathleen. For the rest of his life, Kathleen gave him the same kind of loving care that he had given to Evelyn.

In addition to his three eldest children, Jim is survived by five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Service private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in James' memory can be sent to ALIVE! (alive-inc.org).

LINDA COOK AUSTIN

March 27, 2026

This is Linda Austin, Ralph and Louise Cook's oldest child. I saw an obituary about a friend of Mr. Weber and my father, Hank Altman, in our local paper. I immediately thought of Mr. Weber and looked him up on the computer. He was the Best Man at my parents wedding in Charlton, MA in 1951. We grew up with the Weber kids when they lived in Alexandria and we lived in Springfield, VA. I just want to say that Mr. Weber was one of my favorite people associated with my parents. My father and Mr. Weber both worked at the same place, and we even vacationed with the family a couple of times. When my father passed in 2015, living at Lake of the Woods, Mr. Weber called me, and we talked for about an hour. He filled me in on the family and Mrs. Weber's health. She was one of the most gracious and kind people I had ever met. My mother suffered from dementia and passed in 2020. Both Jim and Evelyn were wonderful people; kind, intelligent and full of integrity and love. We are all better in having known them. We are sorry for your loss. The Cook family sends love and belated condolences: Linda Austin, Debbie Otwell, Ralph Cook, Jr. and John Cook.
