Of Carlisle, PA, died Thursday, July 3, 2003 at Thornwald Home, Carlisle. She was a resident of the Washington area for 20 years. She was born April 24, 1920 in Berwick, PA, the daughter of Ray M. and Mae G. Smethers. Devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Walp was a member of Truro Episcopal Church in Fairfax, VA, the Junior Women's Club of Maryland, a volunteer with the Elbert Gump School for Handicapped Children in Tucson, AZ, El Nino Children's Center of Tucson, a founding member of Tucson Opera Dames, a member of the Carlisle Area Newcomers Club, the Greenfield Bridge Club of Carlisle, and she participated in the AAUW Bridge Club of Carlisle. She is survived by her husband, Dr. William Robert Walp of Carlisle, PA; a brother, Richard of Bloomsburg, PA; daughters, Susan W. French of Paradise Valley, AZ, Cathy W. Askew of Atlanta, GA and Ellen W. Khoshkish of Washington, DC; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Walp is participating in the Human Gift Registry of Philadelphia, PA. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 8 at St. John's Episcopal Church, N. Hanover St., Carlisle, PA. A reception will follow at the Carlisle Country Club. Memorial donations may be made to the any organization benefiting the mentally retarded.
