Jean Gililland Obituary

June 4, 1945 - August 13, 2025
Born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Jean Ann was a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother, and wife who could light up a room that did not even know it was dark. Born to Gerald and Emma Covington, Jean Ann graduated from Pawhuska High School in 1963. She went on to attend Oklahoma State University, where she met Roger Gililland during Move-In day. The two went on to have two children, Nikie and Ryan.
True to her eclectic spirit, Jean held a plethora of jobs over the years, including teacher, interior landscaper, and retail associate. However, Jean was more passionate about charitable work and was known throughout her community for her work with the Claude Moore Colonial Farm, Life with Cancer, and Habitat for Humanity.
Jean spent her time in retirement between Florida and Virginia, involved in every activity that was available, from Mahjong to croquet to fantasy football, spending time with her grandchildren, and serving unflinchingly as the life of the party. She was always the one to lead you down a side street, suggest an aimless bike ride, and indulge every passing whim. Those whims led her on many adventures, including traveling with her sisters, exploring European Christmas markets, enjoying a Broadway musical in NYC, and visiting family throughout the globe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, and is survived by her sister, Jerry Sue Finney, her children, Nikie (Richard) and Ryan (Jennifer), and her grandchildren Maximilian, Gabriella, Ellison and Greyson.
Services will be held Saturday, September 6 at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1205 Dolley Madison Blvd, Mclean, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Immaculate Conception Church Soup Kitchen, 1314 Lynn Ave, Pawhuska, Oklahoma, 74056.

I knew Jean Ann through many years together on the Board of the Claude Moore Farm. She was stalwart in her commitment to the Farm. In all the years we worked together I never saw her angry or mad but determined to do the right thing. I, with many others her knew her, will miss her greatly.
