I worked in the office next to Jean. She was a kind considerate individual. Her sense of humor was one of a kind. Thank you Jean for many good years at NIH. God bless you and yours.

During my years at CSR/NIH, I had many pleasant intellectual discussions/exchanges with Jean. She was a dedicated scientist, and also one of the most widely read, insightful individuals I have ever met at all levels of NIH. Her knowledge base was so broad, sitting in her office chatting on issues was a delightful break from the routine bureaucratic assignments. Jean was considerate; yet, she had a very high standard of integrity and loved her country. She had always a positive spirit even when she developed some knee problems. I learned so much from her in all these years in areas from science, history, literature, art,politics... I felt very fortunate to be one of her friends. She was a true model.

Dr. Hickman was a wonderful human being and a great scientist and a friend of science. She loved science with a passion. It is the end of an era. her wisdom, charm and compassion will endure. I speak for all of the old-timers on TMP Study Section.
