The family will host memorial visitation in their home from 5-9 p.m. on both Wednesday, March 8, and Thursday, March 9. At 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 10, there will be a public memorial service for Jeff at Fourth Presbyterian Church (5500 River Rd., Bethesda, MD).
On Tuesday, February 28, 2023, Jeff Mascott, 48, died of pancreatic cancer, surrounded by family and friends in his home in Chevy Chase, Maryland, the historic Salmon-Stohlman House. Jeff was the Chairman and CEO of Adfero, a Washington, D.C. public relations and advertising firm that he founded in 2004. Jeff co-founded Fireside in 2002, a constituent relationship management firm acquired by FiscalNote in 2021.
Throughout his career as an entrepreneur, Jeff also served on multiple boards and engaged in extensive community service. Most recently he served as a Vice Chair of the Public Affairs Council Board of Directors, Chairman of the Board of Sola Media, and Elder at Fourth Presbyterian Church of Bethesda, MD. Previously Jeff was a member of Sibley Hospital's Young Professionals Board and a member of the adjunct faculty at the Georgetown School of Continuing Studies. Within the community, Jeff directed the Town of Somerset swim team of which his four children are members, coordinated an annual 8k/2k race to support Somerset Elementary School, and coached boys and girls youth soccer. Jeff also enjoyed philanthropic giving, establishing the Mascott Family Endowed Student Support Fund at the University of Maryland in 2022 to support underprivileged students pursuing internships in public service on Capitol Hill.
Jeff grew up in Columbia, Maryland, and graduated from Oakland Mills High School in 1992, where he developed a passion for all things soccer, serving as midfielder on the state championship team in 1990 and earning selection as an under-19 Olympic Development player. His other passion during those years was art, acquired during a family trip to Spain and France, where he discovered the Spanish artist Joan Miró, whose art was the catalyst for Jeff's own work.
In 1996, Jeff graduated phi beta kappa and magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Maryland at College Park. There he met his wife Jenn (m. 1999) who also studied political science, in addition to mathematics. After graduation, Jeff worked for Congressman Frank Wolf (Virginia) and in the U.S. House leadership office of Congressman J.C. Watts, Jr (Oklahoma) prior to launching Adfero.
Jeff loved his family deeply. He was passionate about taking family trips, spending weeks skiing in Montana, Wyoming, and Utah, hiking in national parks like Glacier, and swimming at the beach. He was a marathon runner, qualifying for the Boston Marathon and running marathons in Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, and other cities. He and Jenn always encouraged their children to go to the next level in their activities, including playing the violin and piano, swimming, running cross country, and engaging in the performing arts and other intellectual pursuits.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Jenn, their four children, Avery, Everett, Elias, and Augustine, his parents, Tom and Jenny Mascott of Columbia, MD, his brother Brent and his wife Amy of Olney, MD, his sister-in-law Jodie Foster of Westminster, MD, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. In his memory, the family has established the Jeff Mascott Memorial Foundation to encourage creative youth activity in the arts and literature.
