My late mother would often refer to the Collins family as Our Lady of Lourdes' most handsome and best dressed family. As a child I would look forward to the Sundays when Mr. Collins was the lector. He just brought a little more dignity to the task than anyone else. Fortunately I grew to know and admire the family and later could tell my mother that the appearance only scratched the surface of the special family. A wonderful man with a smile that could disarm anyone -- I consider myself so very fortunate to have known and spent time with him. Laurie, Fred, Jody and Jeremiah -- my heart and thoughts have been with you these past days -- may God bless you all.

Fred,
You went to the Mclean School with my younger brother, Rob. I remember how you and your Dad came over to our house in 1973 after our Mom died to offer your support. After reading about how compassionate your Dad was, it makes perfect sense in retrospect. Nearly 50 years later, I still remember his (and your) kindness.

I met Jerry years ago as Fred's dad. I had no idea how enormous he was in the bar and he would never have said. He was just Fred's dad with that warm smile. I came to know and appreciate who he was in the bar, in the DC area, and in the life of his family over time. What a wonderful man he was. I felt from my first meeting with him in the US Attorneys Office until my last meeting last year that we were dear friends. That's the way he made everyone feel I suspect. I will truly miss you, Jerry. Rest In Peace.
