Dear Steve,Greg,Robin, Debbie and Katy. I am so sorry your mom passed and I didn't get to say goodbye. I loved her so. I posted this to "Growing up In McLean" Facebook page as well as my own and the people who loved your mom came from far and wide. Take care of each other. Until our paths cross again.

"Truly one of the best women I have ever known. I spent most of my years growing up in her pool or house or the back of her station wagon with the rest of the neighborhood. She was the BEST school bus driver ever ! Whether driving us around( again in the station wagon ) on rainy mornings to do the paper route or making her famous chocolate Easter eggs my memories still bless me today. I think I spent more nights at sleep overs in her house than in my own.The animals that loved her were too many to mention but here are a few of my personal favorites.. Machen, Bismark, Sam and Sugar Plum the pony. My mom called her Saint Francis for her home style healing of all and any animal that landed in her hands. The stereo was always going and I learned all of the lyrics to all the great songs of the sixties. I can still sing them today.
A wonderful women has now gone home and will be missed by everyone that knew her. I was lucky to be one of the many".

Joan was such a sweet lady, and lover of all creatures great and small. Even after my parents moved out of the neighborhood, they still took all our pets to Old Dominion. Joan was always so happy to see my mom, my sister and I, and of course, all of our critters! I'm so sorry to hear of her passing, and my thoughts are with her family!

Joan Parker was a wonderful friend to people and to animals. We saw her many times over the years at Old Dominion Animal Health Center where she was usually nursing a "critter du jour" back to health. She will of course be missed by her family and she will also be missed by so many in this community. We loved her. Thank you, Joan, for your friendship and caring. Love from The Beckmeier Family

Roger, Chris and your entire family,
I so enjoyed the time I spent with Joan at the hockey games. I never saw her once when she wasn't knitting a pair of sox for a loved family member. She was such a kind and caring person to all. You and your family are in our prayers.

To Joan's Family:
I have know Joan for many, many years. She was always a phone call away to helping me with injured or baby animals that needed attention. She would say "Come on over and honk the horn." She will be missed by many people who knew her as a wonderful woman who loved all animals. Debbie Onesty
