Joanne Gray Obituary

June 14, 1935 – December 2, 2024

Joanne Moore Gray, née Joanne Addison Moore, age 89 passed peacefully on Monday, December 2, 2024, after a life full of love. She was predeceased by her husband, Bobby Ray Gray and her sister Christine LaVoie Olson, née Moore. She is survived by children, Kimberley Gray Fuller, Holly Yvonne Olson (Alan) and Brian Scott Gray (Lucia) as well as five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Born on Flag Day, June 14, 1932, she was raised in Washington, DC by her mother who was widowed when Joanne was two years old. After high school, she worked as a
secretary in the Federal Government. Her cousin, Milton Woodlief, introduced her to his NC State roommate, the love of her life, Bobby. They were married on October 4, 1958, and had a wonderful 59 ½ years together. After raising her three children, she had a second career as a Pharmacist's Assistant where she took an active interest in her customers and knew most by name.

A devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, family was her North star. There was nothing that gave her more joy than being with family. She went to countless birthdays, performances, games, graduations, and other grandkid and great grandkid milestones. Her favorite vacation was going to Walt Disney World, and she and Bobby took each of their grandkids and one of the great grandkids on a trip to Disney - taking care to make each of them feel beyond special. Doing this on separate trips was her strategy to have more Disney vacations. Joanne had a lifelong love of music, was an excellent piano player, and loved to dance. Seeing her and Bobby jitterbug was memorable. A family legend is that she fainted when she saw an Elvis concert in the 50's. She loved unconditionally, was generous to a fault, and always made time for family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 23 at 11 a.m. at Centreville Baptist Church, 15100 Lee Highway, Centreville, VA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Joanne.
