John Allen Obituary
JOHN THOMAS ALLEN SR.
John Thomas Allen, Sr. passed away peacefully on May 21, 2023, in Bethesda, MD, at the age of 84. Tom was born on July 11, 1938, in Mansfield, LA, to Heber R. Allen and Bessie Mae Bartlett.
Tom's career began in 1961 in The Washington Post's Accounting Department. After a few years, he was hired by then-Executive Director Ben Bradlee to work as a photographer. His hobby became his career, and he worked as a staff photographer for 42 years, capturing countless news events. He considered the mass demonstrations on the Mall during the Vietnam War among the most memorable.
Tom is survived by his wife Pamela T. Allen; his children Mary Beth Allen Corbutt (Greg), Cici Allen Daves (Roy), John Thomas Allen, Jr. (Kendra McDermand); and his grandchildren Tyler Corbutt (Michelle), Alex Peacemaker (Andrew), Madelyn Daves, and Michael Daves. He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren Liam and Riley Corbutt, and Finley and Palmer Peacemaker.
Memorial Services will be held at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22201 on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research at 22512 Gateway Center Drive, PO Box 1950, Clarksburg, MD 20871.
Rest in peace, Tom. You will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing you.
