John was so special to the ED staff. He was respected and admired for his dedication to us. We shared stories about trains and each birthday there was a train on his cake. He is a warm memory to my heart. Barb Neiswander

I felt very close to John and considered him a member of the GWED family. He loved trains, so each birthday cake we celebrated with him had a train. He was a blessing to each of us. Barb

John was a most beautiful person. I retired as a retail clerk at the Brunswick Post Office and so enjoyed talking with John as a customer. He was thrilled when I revealed that I joined the C&O Canal Association as a retirement gift to myself and planned to become a volunteer on my bicycle. He gently explained what the job entailed and suggested that I become a level walker instead. He was so correct! I am still enjoying this role in the COCA. John visited the Brunswick post office on his visits back home to the Brunswick Railroad Museum. These visits are memories that will last forever. John was a very caring human. I am so pleased to have known him.

John will be missed by the GW ED. He was part of our work family. He was invited to staff celebrations, weddings, we celebrated his birthday each year all together. He is remembered with love

Met John in 1967 and became a friend, He was always there for me in some difficult times, an interesting man.
I will miss our lunches and conversations. He had incredible will power and took joy in everything he did. He will be missed,

Way back in the 60's I had the distinct pleasure of tending bar at Clyde's in Georgetown DC where John was a regular.
An outstanding gentleman with a warm smile always enjoying a good seat at the bar. Good spirit, good conversation and just basically a good man .... may he rest in eternal peace

Very sorry to read today of John's death. I have known him since we traveled on the Miller campaign in 1964 and now I think I am the sole survivor of that effort.
Always enjoyed our lunches through the years.
My sincere sympathy to the family.
