JOHN BASHORE

Bashore John Francis Bashore March 15, 1940 - December 20, 2017 Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret.) Died on December 20, 2017 and will be buried with military honors on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 9 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery. John was born in Lubbock, Texas, to the late Agnes Bashore, and Harold Bashore, on March 15, 1940. He attended Lubbock High School where he participated in student government and was also a percussionist in the band. He was a member of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra. Upon graduation from Lubbock High, he attended Texas Tech University where he earned a bachelor's Degree in Government. He married Glenell Louise Stewart in December 1962. John was in Army ROTC in college and entered active duty in the US Army Signal Corps in 1963. John served 30 years on active duty in the US Army. He served in many posts domestically and overseas. He was a Vietnam Veteran, and recipient of the Bronze Star and he also received the Legion of Merit, among many other decorations. John earned a master's Degree in public Affairs from Texas Christian University in 1974. John was Project Manager for ETS (European Telephone System) from 1985 to 1992, working with NATO, and our European Allies. Following his retirement from active duty in October 1992, John began his second career working as a civilian for DOD, with Defense Information Systems Agency, where he worked for 20 years. All inclusive from ROTC through his retirement from DISA, he served his nation for over 50 years. John was a devoted brother to his siblings, "Bud" Cardwell (USMC WW II, deceased), Hal Bashore (USMC, deceased) and his sister Sarah Gray. John was a devoted husband to his wife Glenell, and a dedicated father to his sons Steve and Greg. John invested himself in caring for his family and extended family throughout his life. He coached his sons in sports, worked as President of the West Springfield Little League, and participated in other groups that supported and coached young athletes. John was known as a man of integrity and honesty, and dedicated to his duty, as a soldier, and a father. He loved his country and sought to serve it his entire life. As a teacher and role model, there was none better, and he is missed by all who knew him, most especially his wife Glenell, his children Steve and Greg, his grandchildren Nick Bashore, Savanna Bashore, Natalie Bashore and his sister Sarah Gray. John is survived by his extended family, whom he loved and helped over the years: his sisters-in-law, Maureen Cardwell, Kay Crawford and Lindsey Marshall, Dana Sue Bashore and his nieces and nephews Russell Cardwell, Brad Gray, Courtney Lockridge and Brittany Marshall, Leia Bashore Arteaga and Brian Bashore and many great nieces and nephews.John is survived by his extended family, whom he loved and helped over the years: his sisters-in-law, Maureen Cardwell, Kay Crawford and Lindsey Marshall, Dana Sue Bashore and his nieces and nephews Russell Cardwell, Brad Gray, Courtney Lockridge and Brittany Marshall, Leia Bashore Arteaga and Brian Bashore and many great nieces and nephews.
