John Bloom will always be remembered as a man who provided steady guidance to those who worked for him. He was a leader in the truest sense of the word. He gave me a great sense of stability that I never fully appreciated until he retired. I will always remember John telling me about the time he met my father and we both had a good laugh at the encounter. John was a class act and Charles County will surely miss him. Joe Lavorgna

My deepest condolences go to Mr. Bloom's children. I will miss his infectious laugh and walking with him and Winston. He had such a fantastic memory that amazed me and was grateful for his friendship. I mentioned to him a few years ago about coconut oil benefits and he told me that it was too late for him, lol. We had many amazing conversations and cannot believe that he has passed. Rest in power, my friend. You are missed tremendously.

I first met John in 1999 when he was the lead proponent in Maryland for support of the Navy installation at Indian Head. Selfless, focused, intelligent and comfortable in creating a working coalition among people with often diverse opinions about the best path forward. John consistently met the highest standards of citizenship and always without a trace of ego. 'A very special person. RIP

John Bloom was a huge part of my life although I never realized it until about a decade ago when I met his daughter Marylin. He was the Superintendent of Charles County Schools and signed my high school diploma. We give credit to our direct teachers and principals, but too often we forget those that are truly leading our public schools.
I had the opportunity to meet John Bloom a few years ago while he was here in Florida. He was such an amazing man - smart, funny, sharp witted. Public school education sometimes gets a bad rap, and I picked on him about it. He came right back over the top of me and challenged my joking assessment. We spent an afternoon looking through my LaPlata High School yearbook and as he talked about my immediate school leaders, I gained a new insight into how difficult his job must have been, but saw how fulfilling it was to him. He spoke with pride and told me funny stories.
A few years ago I was having a particularly difficult day at work. Marylin dropped a John Bloom quote on me, and I have carried it with me ever since. "It's lonely at the top...but wouldn't you rather you be there than someone else?"
I am grateful to have met John Bloom. May he rest in peace. Love to his family.
