John Davey Obituary

HONORABLE JOHN PAUL DAVEY passed away on February 10, 2025, at the age of 72, following a brief but courageous battle with Glioblastoma. A respected leader in government, law, and business, John was born on October 27, 1952, in Elizabeth, NJ, to the late Thomas and Marie McKenna Davey. He earned degrees from King's College and the American University, beginning his distinguished career in Prince George's County government, where he ultimately served as Chief Administrative Officer.

John transitioned to law in 1992, becoming Managing Director of O'Malley, Miles, Nylen & Gilmore, P.A., and was instrumental in expanding metro service as a Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority Board Member. He held leadership roles with the Greater Washington Board of Trade, Federal City Council, and Maryland Economic Development Commission.

Appointed in 2011 to the Prince George's County Circuit Court, John served with integrity until retiring as a Senior Judge in 2023 and moving to Rehoboth Beach where he enjoyed traveling, entertaining friends and family, and playing as much golf as possible. A devoted mentor and community advocate, he lived by Robert F. Kennedy's words: "The purpose of life is to contribute in some way to making things better."

John is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Andrea Galenas Davey; daughters Megan Limarzi (Tony), Kate Davey (Ciro Pepe), and Ellen Walter (Leslie); five adored grandchildren; nine siblings; and a large extended family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on February 17 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Rockville, MD. Visitation at the Church on February 16 from 3 to 6 p.m. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his name to SOME, the Cape Henlopen Food Basket, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Cole Funeral Services.
