John Griffith Obituary

John S. Griffith died on July 6, 2025 in Lorton, Virginia. He was born on November 2, 1946 in Great Bend, KS. He'd been a resident of the Washington area since 1982. In 1965 he enlisted in the Army and was commissioned as an infantry officer in 1966. Subsequently he served two combat tours in Vietnam, the first with Special Forces, the second with the 1015t Airborne Division. He married the late Barbara Malner in 1972. They went to serve in Belgium, Germany, New York, Japan and the National Capitol Region. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with V and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal second award, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star. He retired from the Army on July 31, 1990 and worked as a Defense Contractor with several companies until he retired in 2012. On March 16, 2013 he married Angela Mikk Keynon from Arlington, Va. Together they went on to travel extensively and visited Israel, Africa, Estonia, and Peru among many others. Survivors include his wife, Angela, sister-in-law Belinda Arnott of Canfield, Ohio; brother-in-law Michael Malner of Columbus, Georgia; nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at the Old Post Chapel in Ft. Myer, with inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Fairfax Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
