John Edward "Jack" Havenner, age 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 13, 2026, at his home in Swan Point, Maryland. Born November 10, 1928, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late E. Dorothy Stoll (née Dorsey) and Benjamin A. Havenner Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Velma Jack Havenner; his brothers, Benjamin A. Havenner Jr. and Paul Havenner; and his sisters, Marilyn Butterfield and Janet Davis.
Jack proudly served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948, stationed in Yokosuka and Tokyo, Japan. He earned the World War II Victory Medal, the Army Occupation Medal (Japan), the Good Conduct Medal, and the Sharpshooter M1 Badge. After his honorable discharge, he became the first in his family to earn a college degree, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Commercial Science from Strayer College.
In the mid-1950s, Jack joined his uncle, Arnold "Nudy" Havenner, at Arundel Supply Corporation. Later, in 1962, Jack joined "Babe" Chaney to help launch Charles County Concrete and Charles County Sand & Gravel, now part of Chaney Enterprises. After the sudden deaths of Mr. Chaney and Jack Mister in the late 1960s, Jack stepped into leadership, serving as Vice President and General Manager for 35 years. Through his dedication, steady guidance, and ability to connect with people at every level, he helped grow the company into a respected Maryland institution before retiring in 1994. As an example of his enduring pride and remarkable memory, he recently recalled the exact drivers' names and the date of the first load of concrete dispatched at what was then Charles County Concrete.
Even in retirement, Jack remained deeply involved in his community. He served on the Board of Directors of County First Bank from its founding in 1989 and was Chairman for 15 years. He also served as a Trustee for Charles County Community College. At Swan Point, he was known for his friendliness and continued his love of golf as Senior Golf Group Coordinator.
A devoted member of Christ Church Wayside in Newburg, Jack enjoyed church life, time with friends, and a full social calendar. Nothing brought him greater joy than his family, especially his daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Diana Havenner of Swan Point; with whom he shared an especially close bond; his loving partner, Peggy Schaumburg; his sister, Shirley Havenner Page; his grandchildren, Brittani Croft (Dustin) and John-Brooks "JB" Havenner Bowling; his great-grandchildren, Landon, Weston, and Hayden Croft; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Christ Church of La Plata, 112 Charles Street, La Plata, MD. A reception will follow at Swan Point Yacht & Country Club. Interment will be private.
