John Lienhard Obituary

John Bernard Lienhard, 80, passed away at his home in Annapolis, Maryland, on June 5, 2025.
John was born on January 3, 1945, in Miami Beach, FL, to Bernard Aloysius Lienhard and Nellie Earl Lienhard. His family later moved to Alexandria, VA, and John graduated from Gonzaga College High School in Washington, DC, in 1962. After earning his BA from his beloved University of Notre Dame in 1966, John served 12 years on active duty as a Navy Surface Warfare Officer. He served three tours of duty in Viet Nam, received his MBA from Naval Post Graduate School, and was Commanding Officer of USS Dash (MSO-428). Leaving active duty in 1978, John began a 30-year career as a commercial real estate agent in Washington, DC.
John was a longtime member of the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia, and the Washington, DC Notre Dame Alumni Club, where he served a term as President and ran numerous events over the years.
John's greatest love was his family and particularly attending or watching Notre Dame football games (or any sport) with them.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maureen Maloney Lienhard, his children, Jonathan (Colette), and Lisa (Dave); his grandchildren, Kate Woynerowski, Claire Woynerowski, Charlie Lienhard, Michael Lienhard, and James Lienhard; and his sister, Lela Curtis (Owen).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on June 16 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Annapolis, Maryland, with internment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Notre Dame's Bernard A. Lienhard Scholarship in memory of John Bernard Lienhard. Sending sincere condolences for your loss. I served as a junior officer with John in USS Lloyd Thomas (DD-764). He was an outstanding officer and a stellar role model for younger officers. I learned a lot from him and am glad to have had the privilege of serving with him. Hand salute, John. Will see you on the other side!

Mo, Linda and I send our deepest sympathy to you and your family at this time of sorrow. John was my very good friend as well as a business associate. I met him in 1984 and we became instant friends. We worked together for many years, he at CB Commercial and I at The Hall Financial Group and later worked along side John at CB. He was a tenacious negotiator and an excellent broker. We enjoyed several social trips to South Bend to attend Notre Dame football games, fond memories! John's family values were unsurpassed, he always held his family in high esteem. We got to know Mo and the kids and had some very nice times with them. I was proud to call John Lienhard my friend, he will be missed. Go Irish!
