John McNerney Obituary

McNERNEY JOHN JOSEPH McNERNEY "Jack" John Joseph (Jack) McNerney, 85, of Sunrise, Florida, passed away on June 13, 2014. The son of the late Arthur and Louise McNerney, he was born October 14, 1928 in Washington D.C. Jack lived in Silver Spring, Maryland with his wife of 58 years, Monica, until three years ago when they moved to Florida. Monica, the love of Jack's life, passed away in November of 2013. Jack received both his Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from The Catholic University of America. Jack was a Registered Professional Engineer and was a member of the American Concrete Institute and the American Society for Testing and Materials. He spent twenty years as an engineer with the George Hyman Construction Company (now the Clark Construction Group) after spending fourteen years with the National Brick and Supply Company where he served as Vice President of Engineering and Production. He was actively involved with his four sons in Troop 1444 of the Boy Scouts of America and was a dedicated member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Jack selflessly placed the needs of his family ahead of all else. He was constantly at his wife's side, lovingly attending to her needs as her chronic illness resulted in progressive disability. Jack is survived by his children, Jack McNerney, Jr. and wife, Katrina, of Tucson, Arizona; Karen Hill and husband Jim, of Pittsford, New York; Neal McNerney and wife Rose Ann of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Mark McNerney and wife, Meredith, of Ijamsville, Maryland; Steve McNerney and wife, Ronya, of Frederick, Maryland; grandchildren Nikki, Monica, Steffi, Kelly, Alex, Natalie, Meghan, Danielle, Kaitlyn, and Ryan; brother Judge Thomas McNerney and wife, Ruth, of Jacksonville, Florida, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur McNerney. Friends and family will be received from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, Maryland where a Vigil Prayer will be held at 8:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 12319 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland.
