JOHN PLATT Obituary

John Cheney Platt, III
Potomac Falls, VA - John Cheney Platt III (Jack), aged 80, died unexpectedly on January 4, 2017 of advanced esophageal cancer. Jack, also known as "Cowboy," served proudly as an officer in the United States Marine Corps followed by 25 years of service in the Central Intelligence Agency. He led a life full of intrigue, mystery and adventure serving his country abroad in Austria, Laos and France. He was a natural leader, a mentor to many, and did not suffer fools lightly. After retiring from the CIA, he formed the Hamilton Trading Group partnership that allowed him to continue training others on security awareness measures to protect themselves in a dangerous new world. He spent his last few years traveling widely with his wife and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held February 3, 2017 beginning at 2 p.m. at 20522 Falcons Landing Circle, Potomac Falls, VA 20165. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the US Marine Corps Memorial Association: http://mmanetcom.marineclub.com/Donate

yes it has been a long time since I looked after DeeDee, Michelle, and Leigh in Vienna. Your Dad was a very special person, very similar in character to President Carter. You girls are very lucky to have had him as your Dad. God Bless, Margaret

One of the nicest people I have ever met and I am almost 80 years this July. Best wishes to the family, I was baby sitter to Leigh, Didi and Michelle when they were all living in Vienna. One of the best periods of my life, huge hugs, Margaret

I guess I was in my late 20's when I met Paige and Didi and Michelle, the twins were just over 2 years old, I fell in love with them, they were the nearest I had seen children looking like the rolling stones. It was one of the best periods of my life. I think I was looking after them for 4 years, both Jack and Paige were special people, but Jack had something very special, he would go the extra mile, the extra 10, 100 miles for his family and for what he believed in. He would challenge anybody to see that justice was served. Honestly, I never met anybody like him. To the family, I am so sorry that you can not meet and talk with the most respected and loved person I ever met.

Jack,
Thank you for always being there when I needed to talk and for always finding a way to make me laugh at the issues I was facing. You had a wonderful way of putting things into perspective. You were my mentor, my boss and most importantly my amazingly wonderful friend! I loved living my life vicariously through your stories. The world was defiantly a better place because you were in it. I miss you my friend.
