JOHN FREDERICK PONTIUS
On Saturday, July 16, 2016, John Frederick Pontius, age 81, died suddenly at his home on Capitol Hill with his loving family by his side. Born October 25, 1934, in Canton, OH, to the late William Lawrence and Muriel Frances (nee Jones) Pontius. Beloved husband of 48 years of Ruth Campbell Pontius. Father of Nick Pontius of Washington DC. He is also missed and loved by his extended family at Christ Church Capitol Hill and the AA Fellowship. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Christ Church Washington Parish, 620 G Street SE, Washington, DC 20003. Inurnment immediately following at Historic Congressional Cemetery, 1801 E. Street SE, Washington, DC 20003. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to www.WashingtonParish.org Memories and Directions: www.InterFaithFunerals.com

Mrs. Pontius, I'm so sorry I couldn't attend the service today. I have a huge boot on my ankle as the result of a fall, and I'm having a lot of difficulty getting around. But, I loved John! It was always a joy to see him and share a laugh. I also served as Region I Convener and he was a big help to me in getting to know people in the region and around the Diocese. Ruth, Nick, and Family: John was one of my best friends during my 20 years in Washington. I also enjoyed our many phone conversations after I returned to New York. I will always be most grateful to have been one of his many friends.
