As a platoon sergeant of the second Battalion 4th Marines. I had the pleasure of Lieutenant Colonel JH Redgate as my Battalion Commander. I had the pleasure of working with quite a few kernels but not to quite the leader that Lieutenant Colonel Red Gate was. Was truly an honor and a pleasure. My heart my condolences go out to your loved ones. Semper Fi my friend

I went through the first six challenging weeks of the 1959 PLC program under the leadership of Lt
Redgate. I still vividly recall his admonition to us when we had less than 40 minutes to sleep before our first revily that if we wasted even one minute of that time worrying over what we were going to face during the coming day, we absolutely would fail. I believed him 100% and somehow eeked thru. Lt Redgate was a class act and an outstanding officer. Wish I could have paid tribute to him face to face.
