Many Alexandria lawyers owe their sense of professionalism and their ability to stay above the fray to their dealings with Thorpe. He was intelligent, graceful, and inspiring to generations of attorneys.
His impact cannot go unnoticed, and we will miss him.

To Mrs. Richards and the Richards Family,
My deepest sympathy. I cannot find words to express my sadness. I know that God will give you all strength to bear the terrible loss of our dear friend, Thorpe. As you know, Mr. Richards was a great mentor and loyal friend for many years. It was a pleasure to work with him; it was an honor to serve him. His ideas, suggestions, creativity and teachings still resonate with me twenty-five years later. His love for his family and friends was inspirational. His purity of character, his service to his Country, in the United States Navy, and his humble devotion to God prepared him for the peace and rest he now enjoys. Please know that we will cherish his memory and respect him forever.

We met Thorpe and Nancy at Valhalla Point Resort in Marathon, Florida and spent several vacations enjoying their company. The love and devotion that they so clearly showed each other was inspirational to us and a joy to watch. Nancy, we are so sorry to hear of Thorpe's passing but at the same time, continue to be awed at how lucky you both were to have each other. We hope your memories of Thorpe sustain you over time. To Thorpe's family: what a wonderful man you had in your father. He was so happy when he was at Valhalla; by his actions, he showed us how we want to live as we age. We consider ourselves very, very fortunate to have known him. We will miss him.

Dear Family Members, please know how much Thorpe will be missed among the 7:45 a.m. "family" of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. A kind and generous soul, who always had a smile to share with us. We are all saddened.
