JOHN ROBERT SINCLAIR
John Robert Sinclair, 79, of Fairfax passed away on January 11, 2023, with his wife Sally and their sons by his side.
John was born on February 7, 1943, in Mineola, NY to the late Jeanne and John Sinclair.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 52 years, Sally. The two met while attending The University of Alabama and married in August 1970. After moving to Northern Virginia they had two sons, Rob (Jenny) and Ryan (Susan). John has four wonderful grandchildren, William, Reese, John, and Nathan.
After high school, John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, Hawaii. After serving his country for three years in the Marine Corps, John enrolled at The University of Alabama. After college, he attended Creighton University Law School.
In 1971 he and Sally moved to Northern Virginia where he began his distinguished law enforcement career with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC In 1975 he became an NCIS agent. After leaving NCIS, he continued a 32-year law enforcement career working in various departments and agencies within the Federal Government. He worked in the Departments of State and Commerce, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the U.S. Information Agency. In 2000, John retired as Assistant Inspector General for Investigations of the U.S. Department of the Interior.
During retirement John lived a full life enjoying traveling with Sally, spending time with his family, visiting his favorite place, Hilton Head Island, SC, and rooting for The University of Alabama football team. Roll Tide!
Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on February 25, 2023 at Nativity Catholic Church in Burke, VA.
