JONATHAN R. STONE
After a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, Jonathan R. Stone passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at his home in Bethesda, Maryland. He was 66. Born on May 7, 1950 in New York City, he received his Bachelor of Science in Anthropology from Queens College, City University of New York City and spent time in the Caribbean on an Archeological dig. His next degree was a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst after which Jonathan was a petroleum geologist and environmental specialist with the United States Government. He then received his Juris Doctorate from George Washington University and was an expert in environmental law for 27 years with Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft's corporate group. In 1990, on Grand Cayman Island, he married Joyce Brotemarkle and together they had two daughters, Lily and Molly. A unique soul, Jonathan was very funny. He will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. Services will be privately held. Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.

Jon and I have been friends since 1957. We were as close as brothers. We had such a short time to say goodbye. The world has lost a truly unique individual and will never be the same without him.

I began working with Jonathan approximately one year ago. I remember sending him an e-mail saying that I was delighted to work with him (after my being at the firm for 30+ years) and after his long tenure. I said in my e-mail "Jon.. I will stop by on Monday and see you. You can let me know what your phone preferences are, e-mail preferences, document preferences, etc." Jon wrote me back and said "if you stop by my office on Monday, you will be sorely disappointed because I will be out that day." Typical Jon. Always a laugh. May the peace of Jerusalem surround you all with love, light and protection.
